As per the provisions outlined in Article 10 of the Judicial Authority Law, the Court of Appeal is empowered to oversee various circuits for the purpose of adjudicating appeals in a wide range of legal matters, including but not limited to Hudud (limits), Qisas (retaliation in kind), criminal, civil and commercial, personal status, inheritance, and administrative disputes. The formation and scope of jurisdiction of these circuits are specified by a resolution issued by the Supreme Judiciary Council.
The Court of Appeal operates through a panel of three members and is authorized to deliver judgments on appeals against primary judgments issued by the Plenary Court, the Plenary Family Court, the summary judge, and execution judges in both courts, as prescribed by the Law of Pleadings and the Family Law. Similarly, the Criminal Procedure Law vests the Court of Appeal with the jurisdiction to hear appeals referred to it against judgments delivered by the Criminal Court.
