The Ministry of Education and Higher Education has introduced a new digital service designed to streamline the process of obtaining educational vouchers for Qatari students with disabilities. This initiative aims to enhance educational opportunities and support students in reaching their full potential within an inclusive educational framework.
The new system categorizes educational vouchers into three levels based on the type and extent of support required:
- Level 1: QR 43,000
- Level 2: QR 53,000
- Level 3: QR 78,000
Fatima Al Saadi, Director of the Department of Special Education and Inclusive Education, announced that the service will be available starting from the 2024-2025 academic year. The system offers several benefits, including the ability to schedule appointments flexibly, submit applications electronically, and access a new dedicated section for students with disabilities on the Ministry’s public services portal, “Maarif.” Additionally, applications will be processed expeditiously, with responses provided within three working days.
The new system allows guardians to book interviews with the Ministry’s Evaluation Centre online, ensuring transparency and flexibility in assessing students’ needs and determining their eligibility for different voucher levels. Guardians can then choose from accredited private schools using the same procedure applied to public educational vouchers.
Educational vouchers are available for a range of disabilities, including:
- Multiple disabilities
- Hearing impairments
- Physical and motor disabilities
- Visual impairments and blindness
- Intellectual disabilities and related syndromes
- Autism spectrum disorder
This initiative is part of the Ministry’s strategic efforts to enhance educational services for students with disabilities and their families. It aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to provide an educational system of the highest international standards, ensuring high-quality and personalized educational opportunities for all individuals.
In addition, Cabinet Decision No. 25, issued on December 11, 2023, has allocated additional financial resources for students with disabilities, supplementing the existing educational voucher values. This decision underscores the commitment to promoting equal opportunities and offering diverse options for parents to select educational environments that meet their children’s specific needs.
The Ministry encourages parents of students with disabilities to visit the “Maarif” portal to apply for this new service or contact the hotline at 155 for further assistance.
