Since the establishment of the modern State of Qatar, ensuring public security, order, and tranquility has been a top priority. To achieve this objective, a police apparatus was established, which serves as a guarantee for maintaining security, protecting lives, honor, public, and private funds.
The first nucleus of the regular police in Qatar was formed on September 10th, 1949 AD. Subsequently, the first police station was established in December 1949, known as the Doha Department, and it was located in the middle of Souq Waqif. The department's primary focus was on providing security and protection to citizens, maintaining order through mobile patrols and stationary guards on vital places in the capital, regulating traffic, investigating criminal and traffic cases, following up on criminals, referring the accused to court, and deporting individuals as required.
