In 1949, the first police agency in the State of Qatar, known as the 'Discipline Police,' was established. Initially located at Doha Police Section in Souq Waqif, the agency was responsible for safeguarding citizens, maintaining order through regular patrols, securing vital areas in the capital, regulating traffic flow, conducting criminal and traffic investigations, and referring suspects to the court system.
Individuals aspiring to serve as police officers must complete training at the police academy located in Doha. Until 2003, the police force was largely composed of males, with only 30 female officers on staff. However, the year 2003 marked a historic moment when an entire squadron of 107 women graduated from Qatar's police academy, thereby increasing the representation of women in the country's police force.
